Margaret Helen (Moriarty) Selmer-Larsen passed away August 27, at the home of her daughter, after a brief illness. She was 100 years old.
Born in Winchendon, she met Ivar Selmer-Larsen, her future husband at the Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead, where he drove the launch and she worked as receptionist. Married in 1942, they raised three children, Elizabeth, Ann and Peter, at their 65 Gregory St. home in Marblehead. In retirement, they wintered in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and summered in Salem.
Margaret loved her husband and family, loved to dance, to gather for parties and conversation. She heard her first Red Sox game in 1947 and was a die-hard fan thereafter, watching her last game on Sunday. She was predeceased by her husband and her daughter, Elizabeth.
She is survived by her children, Ann Whittier and her husband Stephen, of Salem, Peter Larsen and his wife Jasmine, of Haverhill; son-in-law Charles Morse and his wife Michelle, of Hopkinton; grandchildren, Julie Tamblyn and her husband Peter, Erika Spanger-Siegfried and her husband John, Justin Whittier, Erin Morse, James Larsen and Calista Larsen; and great-grandchildren, Ursula Siegfried, Georgia Siegfried and John Iver Siegfried.
Her funeral will held at 10:15 a.m.from Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wed., Sept 3 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 81 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead. Visiting hours will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Murphy Funeral Home in Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charity, St. Joseph Indian School, Chamberlain, South Dakota. .
