Obituary

Salem- Margaret Ann "Peggy" (Spellman) Goodwin, 86, of Salem passed away peacefully in the morning of Sunday March 3, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. Born in Salem, Margaret was the daughter of the late Iva (Lewis) and Francis Spellman.

In her childhood, Margaret attended Salem Normal School and went onto graduate from high school. After her graduation, she went onto work at a variety of companies throughout the North Shore. Margaret worked at Sylvania Lighting, The Muffin Shop in Marblehead, and Head Start as a bus driver. During that time, she met the love of her life Robert D. Goodwin where they got married in November of 1956. Together, they raised their family of 7 children as they made memories and cherished their time together.

Outside of her family, Margaret had a passion of bowling and bingo while also following her beloved Boston sports teams and NASCAR. Above all, Margaret will be remembered as a loving wife and mother to her family.

Margaret leaves behind; her husband of 62 years Robert D. Goodwin of Salem; her children  Robert P. Goodwin of Pembroke Pines FL, Mary Ann Goodwin of Salem MA, Joanne Granese of Palm City FL, Barbara Karr and husband Ronald Karr of Belleview FL, Patty Goodwin McLaughlin and her husband Gary of Salem, Elizabeth Miller of Randolph MA, Benjamin Goodwin and wife Amber Goodwin of Washington DC; her grandchildren Sean Goodwin, Christopher Goodwin, Jennifer Reeves, Eric Goodwin, Ashley Goodwin, Chad and Danielle Granese, Lucas Karr, Sarah (Miller) Thaxton, Jason Linscott and Emma Linscott, Devereaux and Hannah Goodwin of Washington DC; her great-grandchildren Liana and Sofia Reeves, Emilia and Isabella Goodwin, and Quincy Thaxton; and her siblings Mary (Spellman) Schaejbe and husband David Schaejbe,  Richard Spellman, sisters in law Ginger and Natalie Spellman, Brothers In Law Ken MacAskill, Anthony Picariello.

Margaret is predeceased by her siblings James Spellman, Francis (Spellman Leroux) Benway, William Spellman, Dorothy (Spellman) MacAskill, Elizabeth (Spellman) Picariello.

ARRNAGEMENTS: Visiting hours will take place on Friday March 8, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St. Salem. A funeral services will be held following the visiting hours on Friday March 8, 2019 at 12:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home. In Margaret's memory, memorial contributions can be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House 78 Liberty St. Danvers, MA 01923.
