Marcia H. (Harvey) Olsson, age 84, wife of the late William J. Olsson, died Sunday evening at the North Shore Medical Center – Salem hospital. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lois (Treat) Harvey. Mrs. Olsson, was raised in Waterbury and trained at St. Luke's hospital in New York, NY. Following her training, she continued to work at St. Luke's as a head nurse. She continued her career with Pan Am Airlines as a stewardess on the Atlantic Route. She met her husband William in New York and they married in 1957. They moved to Connecticut where they raised their family.
Mrs. Olsson was a compassionate person, concerned for others around her. She volunteered for several church and community organizations, civil rights and international efforts to alleviate poverty. Following her retirement from the Connecticut Red Cross, she was a regular volunteer at Harford Hospital. Upon moving to Salem, she was an active philanthropic supporter of her new community, volunteering with the Peabody Essex Museum, Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, the Salem YMCA, the Women's and Friends Society and the Tabernacle Church, were she was a member.
Surviving her are her children, Jean Olsson Karam and her husband Douglas of Salem, John T. Olsson and his wife Keekee Bailey of Westbrook, ME, Lisa Olsson Ravicz and her husband Michael of Cambridge, her grandchildren, Emily Rose Karam, David Olsson Karam, Roberto Isaias Olsson Ravicz and Gabriela Marisol Ravicz, her sister Elaine Harvey Somerville Wallace of Manchester, ME and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Lois Claire Olsson.
Her funeral services will be held on Saturday March 21, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Tabernacle Congregational Church, 50 Washington St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. There are no visiting hours and burial will be held privately.
