Marcia S. (George) Giunta, age 91 , wife of the late Joseph Giunta, passed away Friday February 14, 2014 at the Devereux Nursing Home, Marblehead.


Born in Peabody, the daughter of the late Stephen and Margarita (Lucas) George, Marcia was raised and educated in Peabody schools. Following her graduation from Peabody High School in the Class of 1940, she married her late husband and they began their family. Later in the 60's and 70's, Mrs. Giunta volunteered at Salem Hospital as well as Salem elementary schools reading to students. She was a devoted, life long parishioner of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church. She also enjoyed big band music and dancing the night away with her husband. Marcia was an accomplished seamstress and took great pride in making clothing for all of her family. Her domestic talents , which also included her cooking, braided rugs and needlepoint , had earned her a Blue Ribbon at the Topsfield Fair, an event that all of her family applauded.


Marcia is survived by a daughter Katherine Emery and her partner Robert Coons of Phoenix, AZ, and a son Stephen and his wife Marie Giunta of Salem and two grandchildren Jessica and Stephanie Giunta of Salem.


Marcia was predeceased by three brothers, George Georgion, William "Billy" George and James Lecakis and three sisters, Anna George, Georgia George, and Chrysanthe George.


The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 10:30 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home,, 85 Federal St, Salem, to be followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM in St. Vasilios Church, 7 Paleologos St, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be from 9:00 am to 10:30 am the day of the service. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
