Manuel Marques, age 72, husband of Carmilena (Lopes) Marques of Peabody, formerly of Salem died Sunday October 16, 2010 in the North Shore Medical Center following a long illness.

Born and raised in Peabody at the former J.B. Thomas Hospital, the son of the late Manuel and Herminia (Henriques) Marques, he was educated in Peabody elementary schools and graduated from St Mary's High School in Lynn in the Class of 1956.

A very devoted Catholic man, Mr. Marques then joined the United States Navy serving as a Chaplain's Assistant. Throughout his life, he continued his faithful devotion to the Catholic Church and was a founding parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church where he had also served as head usher.

Mr. Marques was employed by Bicknell and Fuller for 41 ½ years until his retirement in 2001. A loving and devoted husband, father and friend he had also volunteered his time to teach ice skating at the former Twin Rinks in Danvers and was a board member of his condominium association.

An avid cyclist, he was a member of the North Shore Cyclopaths Bicycle Club and had enjoyed his Saturday morning rides all over the North Shore. He had also volunteered with the Pan Mass Challenge as well as the Walk for Hunger and the North Shore Cancer Center, Cancer Walk.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Marques is survived by his daughter, Christine Lyman and her husband, Andy; a sister Herminia Marques, many nieces and nephews and his two grand dogs, Peekaboo and Mia.

The generosity of Mr. Marques has been expressed through his anatomical donation of his remains to the Boston University Medial School. A Celebration of his life will begin memorial Mass on Saturday, October 39, 2010 at 9:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Avenue, Peabody, MA 01960. A funeral Mass will be announced at a later date.
