Manuel DeSousa DaSilva, age 66, husband of Celeste (Quadros) Lobao of Peabody died Sunday, February 6, 2011, in the North Shore Medical Center, Salem.
Born raised and educated in Graciosa, Azores, the son of Maria DaSilva, of Medford and the late Faustino DeSousa DaSilva. Mr. DaSilva became a citizen of the United States on August 28, 1966, first residing in Medford. He later made his home in Peabody and had been active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, the Holy Ghost Society and Our Lady of Help.
Mr. DaSilva was an avid fisherman, often seen at the Water St bridge where he was always willing to pass on some advice or a helpful tip to a fellow fisherman. His passion was music. For over 15 years he was a member and trumpeter with the Filarmonica Santo Antonio in Cambridge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children Dianne DaSilva and her significant other Guido Vargas of Haverhill and Michael DaSilva and his wife Julie of Danville, NH; two stepchildren Arthur Lobao and Sandra Lobao both of Peabody; two sisters and a brother Maria Fatima Espinola of Graciosa, Azores, John DaSilva of Peabody and Maria Sao Jose Pimentel and her husband Frank Pimentel; 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister in law Blandina DaSilva.
His funeral will be held on Monday, February 14, 2011 at 8:00 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
