Peabody
Manuel Firmino Cunha, age 76, loving husband for 52 years of Evelyn (Ortins) Cunha of Peabody died Wednesday afternoon in the Kaplan Family Hospice House Danvers.
He was born in the Azores, Portugal the son of the late Firmino and Mary (Machado) Cunha, where he was raised and educated until the age of 15 when his family moved to Peabody. For many years Mr. Cunha was employed by the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company and later became employed by Carr Leather in Lynn until retiring in 1993.
He was an avid soccer fan, dedicated to the Portuguese soccer Team, "Benfica" and was an active member of the C.L.C in Peabody. One of his greatest pleasures was serving his homemade wine to his friends.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Cunha is survived by his mother in law Rose Ortins of Peabody; two brothers in law Manuel and Tony Ortins of Peabody and many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody, MA 01960. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
