Obituary

Manuel E. Correia, 76 April 23, 1944 - October 1, 2020 Manuel E. Correia, age 76, passed away on October 1, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Graciosa, Azores on April 23, 1944, he was the son of the late Antonio and Vitalina Correia, and the brother of the late Celeste Goncalves and Guadalupe Quadros.

He was raised and educated in Graciosa, and after completing his service in the Portuguese army, immigrated to the United States in 1968 and later became a United States citizen. In 1970, he married the love of his life, Maria Livramento (Bettencourt) Correia, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage in January.

Over the years, Manuel was employed with various textile and manufacturing companies. He retired from the Peabody Essex Museum after over ten years of employment in their security department. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Parish in Peabody. He was a member of the Banda Recreativa Portuguesa, the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost, and Our Lady of Help Hall, all in Peabody.

Manuel enjoyed listening to many types of music, and played multiple instruments. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was also a wonderful cook and baker, often surprising his family with new and inventive recipes.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria, his daughter, Kathy, and his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Paul Egan. He is also survived by his sister, Luzia Dos Anjos, his sister and brother-in-law Maria Leonor and Americo Jorge, and his godmother, Argentina Melo, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Manuel's greatest strengths were his loyalty, integrity, and love of family. We were blessed to have him in our lives. He will be deeply missed.
