Obituary

Marblehead….

Richard P (Pete) Cassidy, USMC, Ret., age 66, of Marblehead, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, February 14, 2009. He and his wife Carol (Putnam) Cassidy would have celebrated 46 years of marriage in June of this year.

The son of the late Richard T and Marjorie (Kiernan) Cassidy, he attended Marblehead Schools, graduating from Marblehead High School in the Class of 1960. At the age of 15, while at Marblehead High School, he met his high school sweetheart and they married in 1963. Following his graduation from Marblehead High School, Pete attended Northeastern University and then joined the United States Marine Corps.

Upon completing his training the Marine Corps sent him to Purdue University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1968. He then received his commission as a Second Lieutenant and entered Officer Training School. A decorated officer, he had served as a navigator aboard C130's as well as flying missions aboard the EA6 aircraft in Viet Nam. He was discharge from the Marine Corps May 31, 1987.

As he left his Marine life he began a new marine life, that of a local lobsterman, fishing his boat the Carol El in Marblehead. Although he enjoyed his many friends on the water and onshore he was a supportive husband, father and grandfather who loved his home and spending time with his family. Pete also spent 16 years working for UPS as well as 20 years for H & R Block.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children Chris Walsh and Doug Cassidy both of Marblehead and Megan and her husband Mark Milan of Beverly; two grandchildren Benjamin and Adam Walsh of Marblehead and a brother James Cassidy of Hawaii.
