SALEM — M. Louise Butler, 87, of Peabody, formerly of Salem, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at North Shore Medical Center Salem Hospital.
Born in Salem on Sept. 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Thomas P. Butler and Anna (Leary) Butler. She was a longtime resident of Salem before moving to Brooksby Village in Peabody. Miss Butler graduated from St. James High School in Salem and received her bachelor's degree from Emmanuel College and Master's in education from Boston College. She taught in Salem Public Schools for more than 50 years.
A lifelong communicant of St. James Parish in Salem, Miss Butler took great joy in her family, caring for her mother until her death in 1986. She could frequently be found treating her many nieces and nephews, never forgetting their special days. Whether it was taking carloads to Boston College family weekends, hosting the entire extended clan for brunch on Easter, or dropping off sweets from Klink's Bakery, she was always thinking of others. She was actively involved in the North Shore Emmanuel Club, and was a sports enthusiast, as a participant, spectator and coach.
Miss Butler is survived by her sisters, Kathleen M. Sodders of North Palm Beach, Fla., Rosemary A. Mroz of Salem, Ann J. Ryan of Salem and Janice T. Hyam of Salem, N.H.; her brothers, Thomas P. Butler, Paul G. Butler, and John J. Butler, all of Salem; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was also the sister of the late Patricia M. Femino.
