Lytle C (Lee) Smith III, 63, of Peabody, husband of Donna M (Lambert) Smith with whom he shared 36 wonderful years of marriage, passed away quietly at home with his devoted wife by his side on Wednesday, March 7 ^th , 2018.

Lee was born in Salem, son of the late Lytle C (Jr) and Barbara Smith. He graduated from St Johns Prep in 1972. He retired from the Salem Housing Authority in 2011 where he worked for 35 years in the maintenance department and more recently as an inspector.  He was an avid sports fan and known for remembering significant occasions according to specific sports events on those days. He enjoyed traveling with Donna to many of the ballparks around the country and traveling to Walt Disney World with his children and many beach vacations. He also enjoyed trips to Foxwoods.

Lee was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He cherished the short time he had with his 2 grandchildren and enjoyed reading with them when they visited.

Lee is survived by his wife Donna, his son Christopher Smith of Boynton Beach, FL, his daughter Tommi-Lee Stella and her husband Charles of Wakefield, his sister Pamela Goodick of Raymond, NH and 2 grandchildren Anthony and Anna Stella.  He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Lorri DeFrancesco and Susan Hills, his brothers-in-law Michael, Tiger and Chris Lambert, their spouses, a sister-in-law Jackie Smith and many nieces and nephews. He leaves his Uncle Richard Dooley and many cousins. He also leaves behind his good friend Debra Tucker with whom he worked closely with for many years. He was predeceased by his brother Bruce C Smith and his brother-in-law Russell Goodick.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Friday March 9, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St Salem. A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Wesley Methodist Church, located at 8 North St, Salem, MA 01970. Lee would like to acknowledge the excellent care he received over the last 2 years at Mass General Hospital on Lunder 10, Yawkey 8, Yawkey 9 and the Apheresis unit.  The medical team and nursing staff there enabled him to fight a courageous battle against leukemia with dignity and compassion each step of the way.
