Lynne Tomas Rand, age 80, husband of Janice (Tompkins) (Flanigan) Rand of Marblehead, died peacefully on March 15, 2012. Born in Bangor, Maine, March 10, 1932 , he was the son of the late Lynne Thomas Rand and Mildred (Sturgeon) Rand.
He is survived by his daughters Susan Rand of Ferrisburg, VT, Katherine Rand of Newbury and a son Michael Rand of Portsmouth, NH and his former wife, Dorothy
(Edwards) Rand of Newburyport.
He was predeceased by his second wife, Virginia Jewell.
An avid pilot, skier and traveler, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was very proud of his success in business and was named to the Hall of Fame at the New England Life Insurance Co for Top Sales. He subsequently opened his own insurance company, Rand Associates.
Tom cherished his family and friends. He was generous kind and gentle. He will remain in our hearts forever.
His memorial service will be Celebrated on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 2:00PM in St Andrews Church, 135 Lafayette St., (Rte 114) Marblehead, MA 01945.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Dana Farber Cancer Institute 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215 or Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St, Suite B-102 Danvers, MA 01923.
