Lulu (Stasinopulos) Butler, age 89, wife of the late Arthur E. Butler, a lifelong resident of Salem, died Monday evening in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home.
Daughter of the late Michael and Dorothy (Stamatopoulos) Stasinopulos, she was educated in Salem schools. Following her graduation from Salem High School, Mrs. Butler became a beautician and hair stylist and operated her own business for over 40 years. Initially she established Lulu's Beauty Shop in downtown Salem (near the current site of the Post Office) and later on Essex St until eventually moving her business to her home, until retiring in 1970.
Mrs. Butler loved to enjoy life and being with people. She had a passion for travel and spent her winters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards, especially Bridge, Gin and Poker. Mah Jong became her game of choice in her later years.
Mrs. Butler is survived by a son John Butler and his wife Jean of Danvers; four grandchildren Luanne Atkinson of Danvers, Michael Butler and his wife Stephanie of North Richland Hills, TX, Julie Lamoly and her husband Joseph and Arthur Butler and his wife Rebecca all of Danvers; six great grandchildren Emily, Michael, Abigail, Madeline and Griffin Butler and Catherine Lamoly; and many cousins, nieces and nephews including Andrew Venios of Salem, Theonie Rozopoulos of Danvers, Drusilla Richard of Beverly, Dorothy Carabello of Worcester and Kathy Pantazopoulos of Ambler, Pennsylvania.
She was predeceased by a brother Charles Stasinopulos and a sister Jennie Venios.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody. Visitation will be immediately before the funeral on Thursday from 9:00 A.M to 10:00 A.M. in the Church. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
