Peabody, MA – Louise E. Newhall, passed away at home with her loving family at her side. Proud mother of six, she was a dedicated grandmother of thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Born in Salem in 1923, Louise raised her family in the Gardner Park neighborhood in Peabody. Daughter of Elizabeth and Martin Ryan, sister of Mary and Martin, Louise was married to Paul L. Newhall who, with the help of Louise, operated an oil delivery company.
Louise is survived by her children: Marianne L. Newhall of Quincy, Brian C. Newhall and his wife Phyllis of Woodstock, Georgia, Elizabeth Hill of Salem, Christine L. Newhall and her husband James J. Hoefner of Middleton, Barbara Byrne and her husband James of Peabody and Suzanne E. Wilson and her husband David of Reading. Beloved grandmother of thirteen grandchildren: Evan, Lindsay and Hillary McNamara, Kevin, Thomas and Brian Newhall, Jessica Louise Hill, Sarah Louise Hoefner, Elizabeth, Casey, and Jonathan Byrne, and Emily and Abigail Wilson along with ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Louise was the center of every family celebration. She shared her home on Cape Cod with her children, grand-children and friends. Louise loved to drive and wanted to be behind the wheel until the very end of her life. She was involved in her grandchildren's lives and helped raise each of them. She was a talented knitter, sewer and quilter and her family will cherish the homemade Christmas stockings and quilts. A devoted Catholic, she frequently prayed the Rosary. Louise shared with everyone her faith, the value of family, and importance of friendships. The memories shared by her family will bring them both smiles and tears.
Visiting hours for Louise will take place on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 4 to 8 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.), Salem, MA 01970. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 11AM at St Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St. Peabody, MA 01960. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody.
