Obituary

Lorraine E. Bernard, 78, of Salem passed away peacefully with family by her side on the afternoon of Sunday November 18, 2018 at Care One Essex Park in Beverly.
Lorraine was born and raised in Salem, where she attended both St. Anne's School and St. Joseph's School in Salem in her early education. She went onto attend both Salem High School and Essex Agriculture School.
After her education, she worked as a waitress at Howard Johnson's. During that time, she met her love of her life Henry Bernard, where they went onto be married for over 58 years in Salem.
After working as a waitress, she worked for Catholic Charities' in Salem where she took care of the youth in Salem and the greater North Shore area. She had a passion of caretaking and her compassion for others was noticed by all she encountered.
Outside of her work, Lorraine and Henry started their family and raised four children in Salem. She took an active role in her children's lives as she was both a scout leader for the Boy Scouts as well as the Girl Scouts. She was a loving mother who made sure to be a part of every moment in her children's lives.
If Lorraine wasn't with her family or donating her time to the community, she would be at the Salem YMCA with her close friends partaking in her Water Aerobics Class on a regular basis. She also made sure to take time to travel with her husband as they took annual trips to Florida to Disney, Fort Meyers, and Largo.
Lorraine's faith stood strong with her as she was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Church and later became a member of St James Church in Salem. She was a devote Catholic who guided her life with her faith and spirituality.
Lorraine will be dearly missed by all she encountered. She was a devote Catholic and a caring friend. Above all, Lorraine will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family.
Lorraine is survived by: her loving husband of 58 years Henry Bernard of Salem; her daughter Michelle Teixeira and her husband Armando of Peabody, her daughter Catherine Bernard of Salem, and her daughter Deborah Wheeler and her husband Chase of Grand Prairie, Texas; her grandson's Eli and Luke Wheeler of Grand Prairie, Texas.
