Obituary

SALEM- Loraine J. Arrigo (77), of Salem, passed away on Monday October 16, 2023 at Rosewood Assisted Living facility from Alzheimer's Disease. Born on Jully 22, 1946 in Newton, Loraine was the daughter of the late Mary (Murphy) and Ralph Hamill.

Loraine was educated at Salem Hospital School of Nursing and later went onto obtain her master's at Saint Joseph College in Maine. Throughout that time, she worked at Salem Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, for the U.S. Secret Service, and later went onto start and work for Hospice of Berkshire County in Pittsfield, MA.

Loraine met her husband of 51 years Charles J. Arrigo while attending Salem Hospital School of Nursing. She married Charles on January 22, 1972 in Newton, MA as they went onto create memories and share their lives with one another in Newton, Lenox, Marblehead, and most recently Salem. Loraine was a passionate horticulturist, spent her time traveling and going to the theatre and most of all using her nursing skills to give care and comfort to friends and family.

Her commitment to her family and friends showed in the work she did throughout her life. She was the director of Berkshire County Special Education and also served as a Director of the Massachusetts Department of Special Education. Upon her retirement form those positions, she went back to school at the Lee School of Real Estate and was the Co-Owner and Vice President of C&L Real Estate.

Above all, Loraine will be remembered for her caring and loving nature to all she met. Her compassion and care for all people was her guiding light.

Loraine is survived by: her husband of 51 years Charles J. Arrigo of Salem; her son Charles ("C.J.") Arrigo II and his wife Lauren Ray Arrigo of North Bay Village, FL, John Paul Arrigo and his wife Talula Christian Arrigo of Arlington, MA, her daughter Dr. Monica Lyn Arrigo and her spouse Dr. Julie Koskey of Arlington, MA; her grandchildren Cameron C. Arrigo, Rivers J. Arrigo, Arabella Arrigo, Charleston Arrigo, Benjamin Arrigo, and Caroline Arrigo.

Loraine is predeceased by her parents Mary (Murphy) and Ralph Hamill and her siblings Ralph C. Hamill and Patricia Carmejoole.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Rosewood Assisted Living Facility.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday October 20, 2023 beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Parish located at 292 Jefferson Ave, Salem, MA 01970. Visiting hours will take place on Thursday October 19, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St. Salem.
