Obituary

Salem – Leonard Saduikis, age 91, passed away Friday October 7, 2016 at Twin Oaks Nursing in Danvers.  Son of the late John and Ursula Saduikis, he was raised and educated in South Boston and then joined the Navy during WWII where he served on active duty aboard the USS Breckenridge, a four stacker, where he was a lookout for submarines among other duties.  After an honorable discharge he attended Newman Prep and Suffolk University.  He then began working as a very talented lathe operator, and then spent much of his career as a machinist at Gloucester Engineering.

Leonard was a loving husband of 57 years to Dorothy (Murphy) Saduikis and a caring father to his children and grandchildren. He loved family vacations in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Maine. He enjoyed cooking and was famous amongst friends for his special recipe fried rice. He was also fond of working security at the Topsfield Fair where he met Chubbie Checker.  He enjoyed socializing with friends and was active at the Franco American Club, The American Legion Post 331 and the Polish Club.  He was a faithful communicant of the Catholic Church and was a past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. He had a strong love for nature and animals and took a horsemanship class at the Essex Aggie. He was also a very avid reader.

Leonard is predeceased by his son Leonard "Lenny" Jr. who passed in 2009.  He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy F. (Murphy) Saduikis, his daughters Mary Saduikis and Sharon Saduikis Roberts as well as his granddaughters Sara Roberts and Ronica Saduikis.

Visiting hours for Leonard will take place on Tuesday October 11, 2016 from 4 to 8PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.) Salem, MA 01970.  His funeral will take place on Wednesday October 12, 2016 from the Murphy Funeral Home at 8:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial taking place at 9AM at St. Paul's Church, 50 Union St. Hamilton, MA 01982 and internment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem.
