Marblehead


Laura Dodd age 95 wife of the late Howard Dodd of Marblehead died at home early Friday morning April 22, 2011.


One of six children, she was born in Salem, Mrs. Dodd was raised and educated in Salem. Once she completed her education, Mrs. Dodd began working at the former A & P Grocery Store where she worked for many years. As her responsibilities grew, she was promoted to a bakery position at a neighboring store where she met her late husband. She continued working there until becoming a hostess and waitress for the former Stromberg's Restaurant in Salem at the Salem Beverly Bridge.


Later in life she managed the office for her husband business, Howies Heating in Marblehead until their retirement.


Mrs. Dodd loved spending time with her family and children whenever possible as well travel and "snowbirding" to Florida for several years. An artistic woman, she enjoyed her crafts, needlepoint and ceramics. During the summer months she took great pride in her gardens.


Mrs. Dodd is survived by two sons Francis and his wife Rosalind Dodd of Peabody and Gary Dodd of Marblehead and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 PM to 7:00PM. in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
