Obituary

Kevin Hughes passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2021. He was born January 13, 1959 in Salem. He was a graduate of Salem High School class of 1977 and a lifelong resident of Salem, MA.

Throughout his life he was always giving back to his community. In the 80's Kevin volunteered his time to Salem Hospital where he would dress as a clown and hand out gifts to sick children. While visiting Chicago he volunteered his time for "Chicago Food for Hunger." He also dressed as Santa Claus for many Christmas parades.

Everyone who knew Kevin knew his love for wrestling. Kevin was part of the wrestling community, being known as Kevin "the butcher" Hughes and also "Loon Lon doon". He traveled the world throughout his wrestling career going to places like Japan, California, Canada and many others. In the late 70's and early 80's, Kevin was one of the first students trained by Walter "Killer" Kowalski. He also wrestled alongside "Bruiser" Jeff Costa, Dan Petiglio, Rip Morrison, "Wolfman" Jason Sanderson, and Scott Schwartz. Although he loved wrestling, he was a gentle giant and did not have a mean bone in his body.

Kevin also had a love for clowns, such as Emmett Kelly "the sad clown," Willie Whistle, and of course, Bozo. Kevin enjoyed spending time with his mother and taking her shopping. He also enjoyed spending time with his nephews, Dana Penick and Jesse Camacho.

Kevin will be remembered for his outstanding personality, his love for making people smile, and Keno.

Kevin leaves behind his mother, whom he loved dearly, Ann Dunleavy of Peabody, MA. He also leaves his siblings: John Hughes Jr. of Salem, Daniel Hughes, Sr. of Salem, Ann Marie Penick and her significant other Eddie Franco, and Kenny Hughes of Salem. Also, many nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and longtime friends. He was the son of the late John "Jack" Hughes, Sr. He was uncle to the late Dana "Elvis" Penick.
