Katherine F. Murphy age 94 of Marblehead, formerly of West Roxbury and Somerville, died Saturday morning, June 28th in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home following a short illness.
Born in Newton the daughter of the late Thomas and Veronica (Harrington) Murphy, she was a longtime employee of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Her career began as the Executive Secretary for numerous Commissioners of Education and then as the Executive Secretary to the Cable Commissioner until her retirement.
A very religions person, she had been a communicant of St. John Chrysostom Church, West Roxbury, St. Anne Church, Salem and Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead. Miss Murphy was a longtime member of the Proparvulis Club, an affiliate of Catholic Charities and a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts.
She is survived by her niece and godchild Patricia M. Carmejoole and her husband Peter Carmejoole of Grafton, MA; a niece Lorraine J. Arrigo and her husband Charles J. Arrigo of Salem; two grandnephews Charles J. Arrigo II and his wife Lauren K. Arrigo of Manhattan, NY and John Paul Arrigo and his wife Dr. Jennifer A. Arrigo of Winterville, NC; a great grand nephew Cameron C. Arrigo of Greenville, NC and her grand niece Dr. Monica L. Arrigo of Boston.
She was predeceased in death by her sister Mary "Pat" J. Hamill and her husband Ralph C. Hamill of Newton; her brother Phillip Murphy of Newton; her nephew Ralph C. Hamill of Newton and her cousin Rev. Rickard O'Donovan, former pastor of St. Dorothy's Church, Wilmington, MA.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 3, at 10:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. Anne Church, 292 Jefferson Ave., Salem. MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 P.M. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
