Salem……



June C. Conwell age 78 formerly of Pope St, Salem, died Wednesday afternoon in the Devereaux House Nursing Home, Marblehead following a lengthy illness.



A lifelong resident of Salem and parishioner of St. James Church, she was born in Salem the daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Cliffe) Conwell. Miss Conwell was educated in ST. James Grammar School and was graduated from Salem High School in the Class of 1947. She then became employed by Almy's Department Store in Salem for three years until returning to school and completing her education at the Salem Commercial School.



She then became employed by Varian in Beverly until 1962 when Miss Conwell returned to Almy's Department Store in Salem for 22 years until her retirement in 1984.



Miss Conwell loved animals and had been an active, longtime member of the Campion Club.



She is survived by a brother Joseph D. Conwell and his wife Virginia of Marblehead; a sister Mary F. Bagley of Swampscott and several nieces and nephews.



Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 9 at 1:00 P.M. in St. James Church 161 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A period of Visitation will be held on Saturday before the funeral from 12 Noon to 1:00 P.M. in St. James Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
