Julia A. (Bauer) Miller, RN, age 86, of Salem, formerly of Newark, NJ died at home Sunday evening following a brief illness. She had shared 50 years of marriage with her late husband, Alexander Miller, Sr., a World War II Marine Veteran who served in Bougainville and the British Solomon Islands.

Born in Newark, NJ he daughter of the late George and Anna (Carlin) Bauer, RN, she was graduated with honors from the Overlook Hospital School of Practical Nursing, with honors, in Summit, NJ.

A wonderful, loving mother, she devoted her life to caring for others and inspired her daughter Roberta to become a third generation nurse. Mrs. Miller enjoyed crocheting for years, and donated her work to the homeless.

She was a parishioner of St. Anne Church, Salem where she was a member of the choir. A member of the phone pal program at the council on aging, she was a member of the American Legion Herman Spear Post 331 in Beverly and a life member of the American Legion 40 & 8 in New Jersey.

Mrs. Miller is survived by three children, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, George and his wife Andrea Miller, their children Andrea, Luke, Phillip, Mary, Anna and her daughter Damion, and Simon of Valley City, ND, Alexander and his wife Rose Miller Jr. and their children Corrina and Tracey of Gables, MI and Roberta and her husband Earl Whitcomb, their children Casey and her children Nicholas and Alex and Patricia and her daughter Amber of Salem; her 14 year companion "Jackee"; a brother George Bauer of Kentucky; a sister Anne Heres of New Jersey and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter Alice Scheuder and two sisters Catherine and Bernice Healey.

In keeping with Julia's giving and caring manner, she requested that her remains be an anatomical gift to medical research. Her family requests memorial donations by made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan ST., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
