Julia J. (Yeannakopoulos) Archon, age 95, wife of the late William Archon of Salem, died peacefully early Friday morning in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers.
Julia was born in Ipswich, MA the daughter of the late John and Elene (Eliopoulos) Yeannakopoulos. She was graduated from secretarial school and became employed with her father and uncles in the family business, Apollo Coffee. Fluent in Greek and English, she translated for the business and was allowed to get her drivers license at the age of 16 to make sales and help with deliveries.
Mrs. Archon was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church in both Orange, NJ and Peabody. She was also the past President of the Philoptohos Society, a philanthropic church organization which recently honored her for her dedicated, charitable works.
She was devoted to her family who returned their admiration to her. Although 95, Julia was a modern woman who worked hard all or her life and remained active and involved until her death.
She is survived by a daughter Fotini "Fran" and her husband Robert Eberhard of Bath, ME; two grandsons Joshua and his wife Ann Nichols of Colorado, Springs, CO and Elia Nichols of Bath, ME; two brothers Theodore "Ted" and James "Jim: Yeannakopoulos of Salem with whom she resided; a sister Florence Giannakakis of Ipswich and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother Anastash "Ernie" Yeannakopoulos and a sister Efrosine Yeannakopoulos.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:45 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85Federal St (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by funeral services at 11:30 A.M. in St. Vasilios Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in Greenland Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to St. Basil Academy, 79 Saint Basil Road, Garrison, NY 10524, Hospice of North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 or to a charity of one's choice.
