Judith Ann Meagher, 87, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 24, 2026 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the daughter of the late Edward J. Meagher and Marion R (Farrell).
Judith was born in Salem, MA on September 16, 1938 and lived in Salem during her youth. She graduated from Ste. Chretienne Academy and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Salem State College and later a Doctorate of Education Degree from Boston University.
Her first college teaching position was at the University of New Hampshire before moving on to The University of Connecticut.
At The University of Connecticut her academic career began as a teaching member of the Education Faculty and moving up to the Chair of the School of Education. She retired as Associate Dean of the School of Education. She participated in numerous professional organizations such as Phi Beta Kappa, UCONN Athletic Committee, The International Reading Association and Altrusa.
She became Chair of the UCONN Athletic Committee where she became a big supporter of Men and Women’s basketball at the University of Connecticut.
She was an avid reader. She also enjoyed her time in the White Mountains of NH skiing, hiking, and kayaking with friends and family. She volunteered at the Mt. Washington Observatory, NH Audubon Society, and the Manchester Boys and Girls Club.
Judith is survived by her niece, Deborah ODonnell and husband Michael of Danvers, their children Kate ODonnell and Joseph ODonnell to whom she cared for like Grandchildren. Judith is survived also by her longtime dear friend Jean Sweeney of Manchester, NH, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, MA on Tuesday, June 30 at 11AM. A wake will be held prior to her funeral mass at Murphy’s Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem, MA from 9 am to 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A private burial will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in Judith’s memory to Boys and Girls Club of Greater Manchester, 555 Union Street, Manchester, NH 03104.
