Josephine M. "Jo" (Mongiello) Weiner, age 83, wife of David B. Weiner, of Salem died unexpectedly Friday evening from complications as a dialysis patient for the past 12 years, at Massachusetts General Hospital Boston. She and her husband had celebrated 54 years of marriage on January 24th this year.


Born, raised and educated in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Elvira ((Munzione) Mongiello. After completing her education, Mrs. Weiner became employed as a stitcher by the Finkle Jacket Company in Chelsea where she met her husband to be.


After marrying, they remained in Chelsea for a brief period of time until making their home in Revere for almost 40 years where they raised their family. Ten years ago they moved to Salem.


Mrs. Weiner had a very positive outlook on life and devoted herself to her family. A living wife and great mom, she was a great cook and truly enjoyed her home.


In addition to her husband she is survived by two children and a granddaughter, Cheryl Ann and her husband Brian Gideon of Salem and Robert and his wife Janet Weiner and their daughter Alicia of Wakefield; a brother Richard Mongiello of Chelsea; three sisters Mary Mongiello of Chelsea, Laura Wangrocki of Revere and Antoinetta Tuminello of Chelsea; a niece Rachel Finn and her husband Martin and son Matthew of North Reading.



She was predeceased by a brother Carmen Mongiello and a nephew Louis Wangrocki


Her funeral will be held on Wednesday October 22 at 10:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North ST) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, One Margin St., Peabody (on the Salem Peabody line). Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
