Josephine (Gandolfo) Arrigo, age 96, wife of the late John Arrigo of Salem, passed away on Friday January 8, 2016 at the Life Care Center of the North Shore in Lynn.
Josephine was born to Matthew and Katherine Gandolfo in Swampscott on March 1, 1919 and raised in Lynn where she was educated in the local schools. After graduating from Lynn English High School, she attended Grieg Secretarial School in Boston and then went on to become a legal secretary in Boston for several years. She went on to work as the Assistant Manager of the Mortgage Department at Salem Five Savings Bank and later as the Assistant Treasurer until her retirement.
She was an active communicant of St. Mary's Italian Church in Salem. She was an avid square dancer and loved attending the theater in Boston. Devoted to her family, she is survived by her son Charles J. Arrigo and his wife Loraine of Salem, her daughter Joanne S. Arrigo, five grandchildren and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Regnante, Constance Gandolfo, brothers Thomas, Peter, and Joseph Gandolfo of Lynn. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at Murphy Funeral Home in Salem, MA on Wednesday January 13th from 4PM-8PM. Funeral service will be held on Thursday January 14th at 9:30AM from the Murphy Funeral Home at 85 Federal St followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30AM at St. Anne Church on 290 Jefferson St. in Salem, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
