Joseph S. "Junior" Morris, Jr. age 84, of Salem, husband of the late Patricia (Grundy) Morris died Monday evening, October 5, 2009 in the Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Lowell following a brief illness.
Born in Salem the son of the late Joseph S. and Alice (Kelleher) Sr, he was educated in Salem schools. He was a student athlete at Salem High School where he had played four years of football under coach Broderick and was also a member of the track team. Upon his graduation, Mr. Morris joined and served in the United States Navy for four years which included many duty assignments including serving as a Pharmacist Mate at Cherry Point, NC.
Following his discharge, Mr. Morris became an award winning store and Interior decorator of Eaton's Drug Store in Salem as well as a Patrol Supervisor for ADT (American District Telegraph) for many years.
An active member of St. James Church, Mr. Morris had been active with Boy Scouts servicing as the Troop Leader of Troop 24. He was an avid reader and had summered in Center Harbor, NH where he enjoyed boating and fishing. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Morris is survived by four sons William and his wife Patricia of Peabody, Stephen and his wife Linda of Boxford, John and his partner Stephen of Hamden, CT and James of China, ME; a brother John and his wife Margaret Morris of Peabody; a sister Barbara and her husband Roy Putnam of Center Harbor, NH; six grandchildren Michael, Ryan, Christopher, Donna, McKenzie and Peyton and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 10:30 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal ST (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. James Church, 161 Federal ST, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be immediately before the funeral on Friday from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.
