Salem…….
John A. Silva, age 51, of Salem died Monday evening in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers following a brief illness.
Mr. Silva was born in Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal the son of the late Mariano M. and Barbara U. (Medieros) Silva. In 1961, at the age of four, his family moved to Peabody where he was raised and educated. For many years Mr. Silva was a self employed carpenter on the North Shore. He enjoyed spending time with his family and had a passion for playing soccer. Mr. Silva has played on several teams as well as the Over 30, Over 40 and Over 50 Leagues. Last year he and his brother traveled to Canada while John played in a soccer tournament and his brother Joe played in a traveling Portuguese band.
He was a member of the Portuguese American Veteran's Club in Peabody and was also a well known pool player, recently having been invited to play in a tournament. Unfortunately he was unable to play for health reasons. Mr. Silva also enjoyed fishing the local waters for cod, stripper and mackerel.
Mr. Silva is survived by two children, Matthew and Johnny, a brother Joseph M. Silva and his wife Mary L. Silva of Salem; a sister Mary Wright of Hampton, NH; a nephew Paul Feidor of Las Vegas, NV and a niece Sandy Feidor of New Orleans, Louisiana.
His funeral will be held on Friday May 30th at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North ST) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody, MA 01960. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
