Obituary

John K Rainville, 72, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer on August 3, 2021.  Born on April 19, 1949 in Salem to the late John and Lillian (Caron) Rainville. He was raised in Salem and was a graduate of the Salem Vocational High School class of 1969.

After a class in Culinary Arts at the Essex Agricultural School, John was employed as a cook at the Towne Lyne House in Lynnfield. While cooking remained his passion, John spent 35 years as an employee of Salem Harbor Power Plant as a Control Room Operator, retiring in 2011.

John is survived by his loving wife, Joy (Silveira), with whom he would have celebrated 45 years of marriage in September, a daughter Katie and her husband Ryan Walsh of Peabody and a son Stephen and his wife Stephanie of South Hamilton. John is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Lillian and Meghan Walsh and William, Emma and Peter Rainville as well as his best friends: his dogs Reba and Duke.

Prior to his illness, John enjoyed golf, hunting, riding his Harley, watching the Patriots and College football, music and most of all spending time with his family.

Visiting Hours for John will be held on Monday, August 9 th from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal Street, Salem. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 10 th at 10 AM at St. James Church, located at 160 Federal Street, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John's name can be made either to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, B-102, Danvers MA 01923, or to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
