John R. O'Connell, age 84, husband of Jacqueline (Myles) O'Connell, died on Wednesday afternoon March 25, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Beverly, he was raised in Salem and had graduated from Salem High School. Following his graduation, he entered the United States Navy and served his Country during the Korean War.
Upon returning home from the Military, Mr. O'Connell entered the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and graduated in 1957 as an Engineer. He was a Merchant Marine for twelve years having sailed all around the world. Following his sailing, he was employed with the Salem Harbor Station Power Plant and retired from General Electric.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are his children, Michael O'Connell and his wife Lisa of Peabody, Maureen King and her husband Rick of Marblehead, Patty O'Connell of Los Angeles, CA and Suzanne Butler and her husband Marty of Salem, his brother George O'Connell and his wife Lorraine and Barbara Perroni and her husband John all of Salem, and six grandchildren Lindsay and Jay King, Shannon and Bridget O'Connell, Jacqueline and Cody Butler and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday March 30, 2015 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead at 10:00 A.M. Interment in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Arrangements are under the direction of the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. Salem.
