Salem……



John J, Moore age 89, husband of the late Catherine M. (Thibault) Moore, formerly of Fowler St., Salem died Thursday afternoon, March 19, 2009, in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home, Salem.





A lifelong resident of Salem he was bon in Salem the son of the late John J. and Julia (Collins) Moore and was educated in Salem Schools. Following his graduation from Salem High School, Mr. Moore joined the United States Army. He was an honorably discharged, decorated, disabled veteran and had received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star, the Purple Heart, as well as the Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.





When he returned home, he and his late wife married and began their family. While his loving wife stayed home and raised the family Mr. Moore began a long career with the B and M railroad as a filing clerk. After over 35 years of employment he retired as Purchasing Agent in 1981.



An active parishioner of St. James Church, he was a wonderful husband and father, enjoying his family and all of their activities. Mr. Moore also had many friends around the world as a Ham Radio operator know as "W1TTQ".



He is survived by three children John J. Moore Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Manchester, Missouri, Kathleen M. Moore of Madison, NH, and Peter J. Moore of Peabody; two grandchildren Kristin Russell of Wisconsin and Steven Moore of Missouri, and five great grandchildren Morgan, Mitchell, and Grace Russell all of Wisconsin and Joseph and Thomas Moore of Missouri and several nieces and nephews.



He is predeceased by a son in law Ken Norton.





His funeral will be held on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. James Church, 161 Federal St., St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the St. James Church Handicap Access Fund, 161, Federal St., Salem.
