Peabody……

John A. Medeiros, age 54, of Peabody, died at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Thursday evening, September 30, 2010 following a one year battle with cancer.

Born in Portugal, the son of the late Frank and Laura Tavares (Correira) Medeiros, he was raised and educated in Portugal until the age of 12 when his family moved to Peabody, MA. After completing his education, Mr. Medeiros served in and was honorably discharged from the Massachusetts National Guard.

A hard working man, he had worked in several of Peabody's leather shop as well as Jack Lima's Construction Co and paving and hot top work with Alex Maura. Mr. Medeiros was also well known for both his residential and commercial painting. He was a great cook and longtime member of the Portuguese American Veteran's Post in Peabody. He also enjoyed his many friends at the CLC in Peabody as well as playing soccer, wrestling and kickboxing.

He is survived by four children Johnny Medeiros of Meredith, NH, Michelle McClane and her husband Joseph of Spring, TX, and their children (his four grandchildren) Steven, Mary Elizabeth, John-Paul, and Daniel-Jude; Wesley Nash Medeiros of Cambridge and Laura Lee Medeiros and her mother Jean Jaynes of Peabody; three brothers Frank and his wife Aura Medeiros of Montreal, Canada, Joseph and his wife Terry of Middleton, and Paul and his wife Barb of Waltham; five sisters Maria DaRosa and her husband Tony and Nalia Soares and her husband Mario all of Peabody, Leontina Almeida and her husband Bilbert of Las Vegas, NV, Luisa Pereira and her husband Joe of Peabody and Helen Quadros of Lowell, MA; two sisters in law Rose Medeiros of Port Lucie, Fl and Fatima Botelho of Lynn; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers Tony Botelho and Manny Medeiros.

His funeral will be held on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 12 Noon in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody, MA 01960. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 P.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
