John Canniff McCarthy passed away on Monday, February 25 th 2019. He was 83 years old. He was the devoted husband of 53 years to Patricia Dzierzak McCarthy. John grew up in Marblehead, MA and was the son of the late John C. & Mary F. McCarthy. He was a graduate of St. Johns Prep, Class of 1953 and received a Bachelors Degree from Providence College in 1958. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Army reserves. John loved being a father and was an amazing grandfather who never missed a game for his children and grandchildren. Along with his wife, they were their grandkids #1 Superfans. He retired after 30 years as Sales Manager for Patent Scaffolding Company. He was a member of the former Marblehead Elks and the Gerry 5 of Marblehead.
John is survived by his wife Patricia, son John McCarthy and wife Dawn of Rowley and daughter Kathleen Marino and husband Donald of Marblehead. He proudly leaves five grandchildren, Daniel, Derek and Douglas Marino and Jack and Colleen McCarthy. He is also survived by his brother Edward McCarthy of Marblehead, brother in law John Dzierazk and wife Judy of Georgia, nieces and nephews Mary Landry, Jane Winslow, Christopher Archbold and his wife Tracy, Steve McCarthy and Erin Freiberger and her husband Philip. John is predeceased by his sisters Jane McCarthy, Jacqueline Archbold and husband John, Marilyn Rodham and husband Edward, and his sister in law Joan McCarthy.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will take place on Friday March 1, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St. Salem. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday March 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea, located at 85 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead, MA. Following the mass, burial will take place at Star of the Sea Cemetery, located at 140 Lafayette St, Marblehead, MA.
