John I. Lee, age 66 of Salem died at home Sunday evening, August 17, 2008.
A lifelong Salem resident, he was born in the Salem the son of the late Chester and E. May (Wendell) Lee and was graduated from Salem High School in the Class of 1961. An Honorably discharged Army Veteran he then served overseas during the Viet Nam War.
Following his discharge, Mr. Lee attended East Coast Aero Tech and became a truck driver. He drove as a member of the Teamsters Local 42 for over 25 years serving the beverage industry with Baystate Beverage, American Seltzer and retired from Seaboard Products in Danvers.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion Spear Post in Beverly and the V.F. W. A good neighbor and friend, he enjoyed his home and working in his garden.
Mr. Lee is survived by many closed friends including Donald Kucker and his wife Gail of Salem as well as his dog and companion "Pompei".
He was predeceased by a brother Chester Lee and a sister Mary Lee.
His funeral will be held on Friday August 22, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be immediately before the funeral from 9:30A.M. to 10:30 A.M.. Interment will be in Bourne National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 1:00 P.M.
