(Jack) O’Rourke, Jr
January 28, 1938 – April 30, 2017
John J. (Jack) O'Rourke, Jr ,79, beloved husband of Candide (Laforge) of Center Ossipee, NH passed away at his home on April 30 th after a courageous fight against cancer.
Born in Salem, MA, son of the late John J. O'Rourke, Sr and Margaret (Tully), Jack graduated from St. John's Prep in Danvers, MA and proudly served with the US Naval Construction Batallion, (better known as Seabees). Jack was self-employed in the construction trade until fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a Massachusetts State Police Officer in January 1968. He was originally stationed out of the West Brookfield and Topsfield Barracks as a patrol officer for a short time before advancing to the position of homicide investigator within Middlesex and Essex counties. Jack resided in Salem for 50 years until his retirement from the State Police in 1988 as a Staff Sergeant.
Jack enjoyed golf, cribbage, horseshoes, flying, hunting, and travelling. He was an avid golfer belonging to Indian Mound Golf Club in Ossipee, NH and Pines Lakes Golf Club in North Fort Myers, FL.
His greatest pleasure was spending time on Lake Ossipee surrounded by his grandchildren, family, and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Candide (Laforge) of St. Andre, New Brunswick, Canada, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage; their children, Colleen and W. Brackett Tucker of Tewksbury, MA, and John J. O'Rourke III and Karen of Peabody, MA, six grandchildren , Lauren Tucker, Lindsay Cahill and her husband Jonathan, Leanne Tucker, John J. (Jake) O'Rourke IV, Keri O'Rourke and Katie O'Rourke. He is also survived by many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret (Peggie) Gillooly.
Visiting hours for Jack will take place on Thursday May 4, 2017 from 4 to 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday May 5, 2017 at 10AM at St. James Church, 160 Federal St, Salem, MA 01970. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Jimmy Fund, P.O.
