John Giacoppo, age 76 of Salem died unexpectedly Tuesday June 2 at Salem Hospital.

He was born and educated educated in Salem, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Risitano) Giacoppo, A hardworking and dedicated individual, he was employed by the City of Salem in the public works department for many years until his retirement.

A long time communicant of the former St. Mary's Italian Church in Salem, he was known for his generosity and kindness. Mr. Giacoppo enjoyed meeting people along his way and always had a smile on his face.

He is survived by two sisters, Grace Romano of Salem and Ursula Crowley of Danvers; five nieces and nephews Anne Romano of Salem, Frank Romano of Beverly, Joseph Romano of Chester, NH, Kathy Creane of Salem and John Crowley of Danvers and many great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Nina Giacoppo.

His funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
