John V. Foster age 76 husband of Alice (Ford) Foster of Salem died in Wednesday afternoon following an illness of several weeks. On October 15, he and his wife had celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Born in Stoughton, the son of the late John and Rose (Iervilino) Foster he was raised in South Boston. After completing his education at South Boston High School, Mr. Foster served in the Army. Shortly after his discharge from the Army Mr. Foster married his wife and they began a family. A mechanical engineer and sheet metal inspector, Mr. Foster was employed in the Space Industry for NASA manufacturing components for rockets. He was later employed by Fabro Manufacturing and retired from D.J. Fabricators.

Mr. Foster enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and helicopters, a passion he shared with his family on weekends at the Sylvania parking lot in Danvers for many years. He had also enjoyed hunting and bass fishing and was very happy puttering around his home and being with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately call him "Da".

In addition to his wife Mr. Foster is survived by two daughters, Kathleen and her husband Thomas Camire and Cherylann Foster all of Salem; seven grandchildren Tracey Goode, John Camire, twins Shan and Sean Foster, Joshua, Joanell and Andrew McCarthy; two great grandchildren Jeremy and Alyssa Goode; a brother Francis and his wife Barbara Foster of ME, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter Alice McCarthy.

His funeral will be held on Monday at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., cor of North St, Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in St. Anne Church, 292 Jefferson Ave. Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 to 6 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
