Obituary

On the evening of Thursday January 17, 2019, John P. Doane (81) passed away peacefully with his family and loved ones by his side at his home. John was born and raised in Swampscott in 1937 by his parents George and Jesse (Paterson) Doane.

In John's early life, he attended local Swampscott schools. After he graduated from high school, John attended Franklin Pierce's trade school where he was in the auto mechanic program. After completing trade school, John went onto work for Lally's Garage in Swampscott as a mechanic.

While working at Lally's Garage, John met his wife Sally, where they got married and raised their family in Marblehead. John became a firefighter in Marblehead, where he was proudly known as Clarence. He was a Charter Member of the Union as an executive officer for 20 years serving the Marblehead community as a firefighter. During that time, Later in life, John met Jean in 1993 at the Gerry as they spent years together traveling the country.

Outside of his work, John was an avid deer hunter and sailor. John would be seen departing Marblehead harbor on his boat "Stressed Out". John also loved utilizing his handyman skills for his family, such as building peddle tractor with a plow for his son Tim in the winter months during his youth.

After retiring from the fire department, John worked at Murphy Funeral Home in Salem for 16 years. He later was the Commodore at the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead from 2007 to 2008.

John will be dearly missed by all he encountered. His mark on the world will forever be present in the North Shore community as he devoted his time and efforts to those he cared most about.  He was a dear friend to all, an amazing person to his peers, and a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather to his family.

John is survived by: Sally Doane, his daughter Cheryl Raustad and her husband Terry, his predeceased daughter Lisa Faulkner and her husband Scott, his son Timothy Doane and his wife Patty, and his daughter Elisabeth Jezowski and her husband James; his grandchildren Nicole, Nathan and Bryan Raustad, Tyler and Benjamin Faulkner, Christopher, Andrew, Emma, and Julianne Doane, Sara, Analiese, and Caitlin Jezowski; his great grandchild Bryson Willard; his sister Marjorie Snow and her husband Robert; his nephews James and Neil Snow; and his beloved Frenchie Fiona. John is predeceased by Jeanne Ross.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday January 23, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St. Salem. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday January 24, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Holy Name, located at 60 Monument Ave, Swampscott, MA 01907. Burial will take place following the funeral mass at Swampscott Cemetery.
