Obituary

Joao Silva, 84, of Peabody MA died on Monday, November 30, 2020 from complications of a stroke.  He was born on February 29, 1936 on the island of Graciosa in the Acores to the late Cesario Lima and the late Angelina Cunha.

He immigrated to the United States in February 1968 with his wife Maria J Silva (Borba) and his Daughter Anna Paula Silva and became a lifelong resident of Peabody. He worked for Sylvania as a machinist for 25 years but his passion was music; he was a consummate musician. He spent countless hours teaching, writing, and playing. He was one of the founders of the Banda Receativa Portuguesa in Peabody and performed with various Portuguese marching bands throughout the state and internationally.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Maria J Silva, his daughter Anna Paula Silva, granddaughter Lydia Camille Gard, brother Hamilton Lima and wife Maria da Luz Melo, Uncle Christiano Silva and wife Isaura Silva, Aunt Eugenia Silva as well as numerous cousins.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, Salem.
