Joan C. (Raymond) Rogers, RN, age 78, wife of the late Salem Fire Department Captain John " Jack" Rogers, died Tuesday morning in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home following a battle with lung cancer for several months.
She was born and raised in Lynn the daughter of the late William and Stephanie "Stella" (Nadolna) Raymond. Following her graduation from high school, Mrs. Rogers became trained as a Registered Nurse at the Salem Hospital School of Nursing in 1951.
Her nursing career then started as a nurse in the nursery of the Salem Hospital maternity unit. After marrying her late husband and beginning their family, Mrs. Rogers was a stay at home mom for many years. She later returned to nursing in the Shaughnessy Hospital for many years until and retiring in 1985.
A loving wife and mother, she enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardening. Her true pride and joy was being a grandmother and spending time with the kids.
She is survived by three children, Julie Ann Rogers of Georgetown, John A. Rogers and his wife Kathleen of Peabody, and Janel Andrea Rogers of Salem and seven grandchildren, Christopher and Michelle Beamon, Courtney, Jay and Michael Rogers and Nicholas and Mikayla Morse.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday July 18 at 9:15 A.M from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
