IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan C.
Nessinger
December 27, 1933 – April 23, 2019
On April 23, 2019 Joan C Nessinger, age 85, left this world peacefully with family at her side for eternal happiness.
Joan was born in Salem, MA on December 27 1933 and was the daughter of the late Theodore and Yvonne (Berube) Claffey.
Recently a resident of Peabody, she was raised and educated in Salem where she brought up her family.
Joan enjoyed spending time, particularly the holidays with family and friends. She was close to many people at the Tannery Apartments where she ran movie nights and often could be found socializing around the pool and in the lounge area. In her early years, she worked full time at Shetland Park and then in the medical field as a ward secretary at Salem Hospital, records at Medical East in Peabody and finally retiring from Blue Cross Blue Shield.
With Joan family always came first. From bringing up her four children as a single parent to becoming a full time caretaker for her mother Yvonne to bragging about her grandchildren and great grandchildren, it was all about her family. Although she will be greatly missed, we all know and believe we will see her again in eternal happiness.
Joan is survived by her four children; Donna and her husband Robert Callahan, Kathy and her husband Ralph Cornell, Linda and her husband George Almeida, and Michael and his wife Kerri Nessinger.
Eight grandchildren; Mathew and his partner Angela Almeida, Lindsey and her husband Michael Welch, Sean and his wife Monica Callahan, Joe and his wife Nell Callahan, David and his fiancée Ariane Cornell, and Heather, Cheyenne and Savannah Nessinger. And six great grandchildren; Fischer Callahan, Tate Callahan, Ford Callahan, Billy Callahan, Charlotte Welch and Samuel Welch. As well as her two dear friends Carol Brophy and Florence Gately.
In memory of Joan, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Visiting hours for Joan will take place on May 20, 2019 from 9AM to 11AM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street (corner of North St.), Salem, MA 01970. A funeral service will be held at 11AM the same day, also at the Murphy Funeral Home.
