Joan "Joanne" (Buckley) (Cummings) Goddard, age 73, wife of Joseph "Iain" Goddard, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. Joanne was the daughter of the late Dr. John L. Buckley and Ruth (Pierce) Buckley. She was raised in Goshen, Connecticut. She graduated from Northfield School for Girls in Northfield, Massachusetts in the class of 1958. She continued her education and graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from the Bouvé College at Tufts University in the class of 1962.
Joanne married the Rev. Robert W. Cummings and started her family. She was employed as a Physical Therapist with Pilgrim House Nursing Home in Peabody for several years and retired from NSMC Salem Hospital in the mid 1990's after many years of service.
Joanne married Iain Goddard on July 24, 1986 in Danvers, Massachusetts. She was a member of the Northshore Unitarian Universalist Church in Danvers. Joanne was a founding member of the Salem Scottish Country Dance Group, "The Wee Bluets", and was a member of "The Busy Bees Sewing Circle" that also meets in Salem. She enjoyed traveling and had spanned the globe from China to Alaska and Argentina to Greece.
Surviving her in addition to her husband Iain, are her children, Sara C. Madle (and her husband Ali) of St. Petersburg, Florida, John B. Cummings (and his wife Kim) of Hudson, and Diana L. Cummings of Salem. She was also the sister of Carolyn Buckley of Gloucester and Barbara O'Leary (and her husband Jim) of Goshen, Connecticut; and grandmother of Austin and Kiana Gilmour, Jimmy and Kaylee Cummings, and Sophie Madle.
A Memorial Service for Joanne will be held at the Northshore Unitarian Universalist Church, 323 Locust St., Danvers, on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joanne's memory to Kaplan Family Hospice House are suggested.
