Jeremiah P. "Jerry" Callaghan age 71, loving husband for 46 years of Sandra (Curtis) Callaghan died unexpectedly at home on Thursday evening, May 3, 2012.
Born in Boston the son of the late William and Julia (Lucey) Callaghan, he was raised in Roslindale. Following his graduation from Cathedral High School, Mr. Callaghan was employed by John Hancock Insurance, where he met his future wife.
Mr. Callaghan became employed by Bartlett and Steadman Construction, earned his plumbers license and established the well known J.P. Callaghan Plumbing Co. As the years went by, his son Kevin learned the plumbing trade and today continues to operate the family business as K.J. Callaghan Plumbing Co.
More recently, Mr. Callaghan had enjoyed winters in Ft. Myers Beach, FL and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Sheila Callaghan and her husband Kevin Scheeler of Wakefield and Kevin and his wife Tawny Callaghan of Marblehead; a sister Sheila Callaghan , S.N.D of Woburn, two brothers William Callaghan and a twin brother John Callaghan both of West Roxbury; his dear cousin to Maureen Walsh of Hingham ; his in laws John "Stu" Curtis and his wife Caroline of Swampscott and William Curtis and his wife Ruth of Danvers. He was also the cherished grandfather of Patrick, Kristen, Derrick, Dylan, and Emma who all loved and adored him and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother in law Richard Curtis.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Arland Dirlam Chapel of Waterside Cemetery, 294 West Shore Drive, Marblehead. Interment will follow in Waterside Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North ST) Salem.
