Marblehead
Jeffrey F. Howlett, age 70, beloved husband of Joan (St.Pierre) Howlett, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015. Born in Lynn, Jeff, the son of the late Harold and Helen Howlett, grew up in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School in 1962. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Jeff served in the Submarine Service and was a member of the Naval Reserves for many years as well as a co-founder of the Submarine Veterans Marblehead Base.
The sea always held an important place in Jeff's heart! He was employed for many years at Ted Hood Sailmakers, co-owned Wilson & Silsby Sailmakers, both of Marblehead and was employed by Boston Harbor Cruises as a Ferry Boat Captain. One of his favorite pastimes was driving the launch at the Marblehead Yacht Club.
A life member of the Gerry No. 5 VFA of Marblehead, Jeff loved socializing with his friends and helping with the many Activities and Community Projects that the Gerry provides. He also formed the Tri Canoe Club with 2 friends and enjoyed canoeing down the Ipswich River for many years, and they always ended their trips at Riverview for "Pizza"
In addition to his loving wife, Jeff is survived by his sister Kathleen Lapham and her husband Robert of Peabody, his nine nieces and nephews (Mark, Michael, Maureen, Mike, Kate, Drew, Gavin, Maggie and Jessica) and five great nieces and great nephews.
Jeff and Joan took great pleasure in taking their nieces and nephews camping throughout New England and skiing at Loon Mountain. They will miss him!
