Jane P. (Shea) Simmons, age 90, wife of the late Ernest J. Simmons, of Moultonboro, NH former of Salem, MA, died Sunday July 21, 2013 at home.
Born in Salem the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Mary L. (Craven) Shea
She attended Salem schools, graduating from Salem High School in the Class of 1941. Mrs. Simmons received her Bachelor's Degree from the Salem Teacher's College in the Class of 1945 and then began teaching in a Beverly Nursery school and later taught in Salem's elementary schools including the Pickering, Bowditch and Carlton schools.
Mrs. Simmons enjoyed reading and knitting and found the most joy spending time with her grandchildren.
Once she moved to Moultonboro, NH, Mrs. Simmons became very active with the local Meals on Wheels in Meredith, NH.. There wasn't a responsibility she wouldn't accept. From answering the phones, cooking food or helping a visitor, she was always there. She also enjoyed the many good friends she had made.
She was the devoted mother, sister and grandmother to three sons, Paul and Mark Simmons of Moultonboro, NH and Brian and his wife Jeanne Simmons of Beverly, MA, a sister Margaret L Powers of Hopkinton, MA, two grandchildren, Kelly and Beth Simmons of Beverly, MA, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son David Simmons and three sisters, Mary Goldkamp, Elisabeth Sheaa, and Ellen Callahan.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 10:30 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. James Church, 156 Federal St, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
