Salem, MA – Jane A. Caron, age 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Grosvenor's Park Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Samuel J. and Christina (Gartland) Barnes, and wife of the late William H. Caron, Jane was raised and educated in Salem. She attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Salem High School in 1937. She was employed with New England Telephone as an operator and later worked in their accounting department, retiring after 25 years of service.
Jane enjoyed spending time with her family and travelling with her husband William in their retirement. Together they visited Mainland Europe, England, Ireland, Scotland and the Panama Canal.
Jane was well known for her handywork. She very much enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidering, and making oriental rugs. Her grandchildren looked forward to "Nana's" homemade sweaters at Christmas.
Jane is survived by: her six children, Christina Harrington and her husband Richard of Salem, Patricia A. Caron of Salem, and Michael W. Caron and his wife Kathleen of Kennebunk, ME, Mary A. Caron and her husband Nick Crivello of Salem, Paul R. Caron and his wife Ellen of Groveland, Anne E. Caron of Salem as well as, her grandchildren, William Harrington and his wife Donna of South Burlington, VT, Andy Harrington of Attleboro, Samuel Harrington and his wife Kim of Natick, Jane Kimble and her husband Matthew of Middlebury, VT, Amy Gaudrault and her husband Thomas of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Ted Caron of Lynnfield, Joseph Caron and his wife Jessica of State College, PA, Michele Kennedy and her husband Scott of Tewksbury, Laura Tarantino and her husband Michael of Peabody, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Barnes.
Visiting Hours for Jane will take place on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 4 to 7PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.), Salem, MA 01970. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11AM at St. James Church, 160 Federal St., Salem, MA 01970.
