Services Postponed to a Later Date

James P. Power, 86 of Marblehead passed away peacefully following a sudden illness on February 9, 2020 while surrounded by his daughters.

Jim was a true "header" of Marblehead and the youngest of two children. Born, March 10, 1933 at the original Mary Alley Hospital on Franklin St to Walter B. Power Jr. and Margaret (Waller) Power and his late brother, Walter B. Power III.

He graduated from Marblehead High School, served in the Marine Reserves and the Air Force. After returning home from the Korean War, he studied at Nasson College in Sanford, Maine.

James "Nimmy" spent his last days in Sanibel Island, Fla. but was an annual "snowbird" of the island after he retired from a 45 year career as Estimator of Highways with the then, Bardon Trimount in Everett, Ma.

He married Virginia H. O'Meara of Salem, Ma. And settled in Marblehead and raised three daughters. Jim led a fulfilling and adventurous life surrounded by wonderful family and friends. He was a proud member of the Marblehead Elks and then The Gerry 5 VFA. Back in 1972, Jim ran for Surveyor of Highways, a title that his father served proudly for many years. He was an avid golfer, his friends would always have annual weekend golf tournaments up at Point Sebago, Maine and loved to play pool with his friends down in Florida. He was a nature enthusiast, a passionate reader of the American Wars, especially reading and learning about the Civil War. After he retired his love for the outdoors motivated him to hike and finish the Appalachian Trail as well as venturing to hike the Pacific Crest Trail on the western coast.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends at the family home "Fairlee" on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, Maine.

Jim is survived by his daughters and loving family; Tara Gilbert with her husband Bradley Gilbert of Eliot, ME. Laurel Perry of Marblehead, Peyton Dixey with her husband Adam Dixey of Marblehead, his five grandchildren Madison, Devon, & Taylor Gilbert, Grace Perry and Riley Dixey. With his sister-in-law Sandra Power of Salem, Ma. His nephews Topper, Sherman, Matthew and niece Betsy.

His family and friends have been generous with their outpouring of love and support throughout the end of his life.
