James A. Pomakis, age 88, husband of Helen (Bradham) Pomakis, died Wednesday September 16, 2015 at the NSMC-Salem Hospital. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Arthur and Paulina (Vafiados) Pomakis. He was a graduate of Salem High School.
James joined the United States Marine Corp and served during the Korean War for four years. He was a decorated Sergeant.
James was employed as a master mechanic at Lynn Sand and Stone in Swampscott. He retired from the company after 42 years. He was a family man and enjoyed his family. He built the family home. He was a skilled craftsman. Other interests included oil painting, gardening and cooking.
James is survived by his wife Helen, sons Donald and Jeffrey and daughter Caroline. He is also survived by siblings Fannie and Michael.
His Graveside Services will be held on Monday September 21, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. The family has requested no visiting hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem.
