James W. "Peley" Pelechowicz, age 69, husband of the late Caroline M. (Sauer) Pelechowicz, of Salem died Tuesday afternoon in Anna Jacques Hospital following a brief illness.


He was born in Boston, the son of the late Stephen and Bertha (Ford) Pelechowicz and educated in local schools. Mr. Pelechowicz was employed for many years as an oil truck driver for Metropolitan Oil which later became known as Alliance Oil. During his years of employment he also served as the Local Union Shop Steward.


An avid saltwater sports fisherman, he enjoyed fishing locally for flounder and cod. He also had a passion for boxing and was a longtime fan of Mohamed Ali's and had traveled to Madison Square Garden to see his matches.


Mr. Pelechowicz is survived by a son Steven Pelechowicz and his wife Renee of Danville, NH; four sibling Steve Pelechowicz of Stratham, NH, Sandra Doucette of Salem, Cathy Howe of Salem and Danny Pelechowicz of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren Angela and her husband Diogo Sousa of Gloucester, Alexander, Nicholas and Gina Pelechowicz all of Danville, NH and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.


He was predeceased by a brother Robert Pelechowicz.


Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend graveside funeral services on Tuesday, May 27 at 11:00 A.M. in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. At the family's request there are no visiting hours.
