Obituary

Marblehead – James "Jim" Edwin Oliver, aged 91, passed away Thursday, November 4 at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital with his loving wife Jocelyn, and the staff of the Hospital at his side. Born in Lynn to James and Katharin (Williams) Oliver, Jim spent his formative years in Lynn. Jim was educated in Lynn at the Industrial Arts High School, and upon graduation Jim joined the Navy. During his 20 years in the Navy, Jim was mainly stationed on the USS Allagash in Newport Rhode Island. After his retirement from the Navy where he achieved the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, Jim went on to work at General Electric in Lynn for 24 years, and then retired from there in 1990. Not content with retired life just yet, Jim started to work again at Blue Anchor Wood Works in Marblehead until 2000.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Jocelyn (Taylor) Oliver; his daughters Kathy Dennis-Prestia and her husband Michael Prestia of Ipswich, Nancy Smith of Peabody, and Mary Helmstrom of West Peabody; his step children Mark Smith and Becky Carter; and his grandchildren Elizabeth and Matthew Dennis, Katie, Bradford and Tyler James Smith, and Beau and Dylan Carter. Jim was predeceased by his parents, his sister Priscilla Thomas, and his son-in-law Frank Helmstrom.

At the request of the family services for Jim were private, and handled by the Murphy Funeral Home.
